"Elephant" :

(40cmm x 40cm) Unglazed ceramic, marble, Italian glass, millefiore and bugle beads.

"Koru"

I discovered this popular motif in New Zealand. It is inspired by the unfurling fern frond and signifies awakening, the process of growth, joy.

Smalti, gold smalti, iridescent vitreous glass and paua(New Zealand abalone).

"Just Grass"

Grasses growing from between paving stones outside my studio inspired this piece. The only growing things around, caught in the sun against a plain wall, they seemed triumphant.

Unglazed ceramic and smalti.

"Winged splendour"

Made largely of unglazed ceramic (the wing spots are smalti) this mosaic contains around 2000 pieces. All were hand cut and most are smaller than a coffee bean. This was commissioned to hang on a porch wall.

Fish birdbath

A birdbath, using ceramic and glass. The use of glass for the fish provides a shimmer when filled with water.

Garden seat "Blue Flowers"

Unglazed ceramic and vitreous glass. The blue glass has an iridescent finish and changes colour with light and angle. Perfect for outdoors.

"Fancy Frog"

Glass and smalti on terracotta add both texture and colour interest to this decorative piece.

Bird Of Paradise Birdbath

This work is made from ceramic and glass. The pieces were laid on mesh and cemented in to place. Notice how the flowers and leaves are shaped to flow over the rim.

"Rachel"

An experimental portrait in rough-cut smalti. A smoother effect can be achieved with the same material or with glass, ceramic or marble.

Garden seat "Chrysanthemum"

Ceramic and glass constructed first on a mesh then transferred to the location and applied to the seat with outdoor cement before grouting with an outdoor grout.

Some of the glass tiles here have a lovely iridescent finish and the colour changes with the light and viewpoint. Beautiful!

Garden Pot

A relatively simple but highly effective piece made from glass and ceramic and glued with waterproof PVA. Good for garden or conservatory.

Lizard Pot

Black and white ceramic stuck directly with cement in the Ravenna style.

Wall hanging made up of six separate panels

Abstract design made of porous material applied directly to square tiles with PVA. Good for garden or conservatory, kitchen, bathroom or wherever you like!

Clematis

Smalti and marble applied directly to cement giving a looser more informal style - it is important to fix the pieces before the cement becomes unworkable.

Decorative plate

This piece is made effective by the way the pieces nudge up to each other. The poppy pattern and green background in the centre are a copy of a small section of a Byzantine mosaic in Ravenna , Italy.

The Jester

Smalti and glass with a background of matte, white tiles made of a light porous material. The contrast with the depth, sheen and texture of the smalti works well and really has to be seen to be appreciated.

Panther

Made with completely traditional methods in marble and limestone this is a copy of a small section of a mosaic which can be found in Ravenna .

Heron

Garden wall panel made from a porous but light material, constructed on mesh and secured into the frame with a flexible outdoor adhesive then treated with a waterproofing substance.

Heron detail

The texture of the piece – especially the legs – can easily be seen here.

Byzantine Birdbath

This work is made from ceramic and glass. A combination of techniques was used in order to mould the shape of the bowl. The rim tiles are cemented directly to the surface with the inner bowl surface laid on mesh and cemented in to place.

Sally Cat

An early work made with ceramic tiles, this was based on a photograph.

Fish

Smalti, glass, mirror tile and fine gravel. Made on a lime putty bed and transferred to cement.
